"Lighten Up!"

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28 KJV

Every human being needs some kind of rest. I am not talking so much about sleep or physically resting such as getting off of your feet. I’m speaking more like mental, emotional, and spiritual rest. We need the weight we often carry in our mind, in our soul, and in our spirit lifted.

When you are walking in God’s purpose for your life, a lot of time we think because we are doing “right” our path in life is going to somehow be less of a struggle mentally, emotionally, and spiritually than if we were doing wrong. In a way, that’s true, but only if we learn to give our burdens to God. If we never learn to give our burdens to God, it will feel like it’s so much easier just to do wrong or do what we want instead of doing what’s right or what God wants us to do.

Though we (Believers) are in this world but not of this world we are still not shielded from the normal obstacles we experience in life from day today. Therefore, we should constantly work to get in God’s rest; we often need a reset. This rest or reset can only come from God. Let me give you another way to look at it. If you have ever been in a crowded space and you are carrying a few bags, a purse, or maybe even a child (carrying anything) and you are trying to muscle through the crowd, without accidentally hitting someone, running into someone, or just trying to get to your designated place without your arms giving out on you, you know exactly what I mean. A lot of times we are tired and need rest because we are carrying unnecessary weight.

In 1 Samuel 17, it speaks about how Saul tried to give David his armor to fight but it was too big. Saul's armor didn’t fit David.

And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

1 Samuel 17:39 (KJV)

Most of the time what we are carrying things God never told us to carry. If it’s someones else’s weight or someone gave it to us with good intentions, thinking it would help. When in reality it’s unnecessary and therefore actually hinders us.

How do we drop this unnecessary weight? How do we come away from this mental, emotional and spiritual exhaustion? How do we find rest?

Pray and ask God to silence all the murmuring and chatter around me; tell him to silence everything but His Voice. It’s the only one that truly matters. And listen for his instructions. Listen to what he would have you to do next.

Once my mind is clear (or at least seems clear for the moment) I then pick a book in the Bible and read one Chapter, reading aloud verse by verse. I pick one thing I have learned.

If you are a Believer, you must remind yourself that NONE of these battles are your battles. I say this because I am trying my best to walk in God’s will for my life. If it’s His will, these are HIS battles. If it’s my will I am walking in, then these are my battles.

The hardest part is knowing the difference. ♥️
